Balling On A Budget

There are just over 23 million active smartphones in South Africa, and most handsets are Android. The most popular smartphone brand in the country is Samsung with just over 50% of the market share followed by Apple at 16%.

As we can see from the chart above, there are quite a few other players in the market, making the budget category very competitive. Most consumers can’t afford flagship offerings from brands like Apple, so Android phone makers are capturing the market with something for everyone.

Recent sales data reported by MyBroadband shows the most popular budget smartphones amongst consumers.

It seems like the Samsung Galaxy A04e is the top-selling smartphone across the board. It currently retails for just under R2000.

An Unexpected Banger Appears

i’ve been playing this on repeat for the past week…

I found myself scrolling on TikTok last week and to be fair I have been on the hunt for something new to add to my Spotify playlist rotation. There were the regular RnB vibes, Hip Hop head nodders and Lo-Fi focus tracks.

All of a sudden, I get fed something new. Something I haven’t allowed myself to indulge in for years. Enter, Sleep Theory.

I was transported back to my teens and early 20s when Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco and Linkin Park had coloured boys in a chokehold and my spirit was transported to another dimension.

This is the music video for their song, Stuck In My Head and it’s what got me into their music in the first place.

EcoFlow has announced the Power Hat (actual name) that will be shipping from around September, just in time for Summer in the South.

I can see it now, this is going to have coloured boys and festivalgoers in a chokehold. You’ll be hearing things like ‘Bru! Can I koppel a charge from your floppy gou?’ and ‘Yah bru! I just need a quick charge. My iPhone is a bit low. Lekker man!’

The hat has solar panels at the top of it and provides a 12W charge in optimal conditions.

You’ll never catch me lacking with this one.
