We’ve Got The World’s First AI Criminal
he was really raking it in…

It’s been a whirlwind of AI releases and announcements since 2021 and with anything, there’s always a chance someone is going to find a way to game the system.
It was recently reported that on 4th September, a 52-year-old man named Michael Smith was nabbed in the USA on charges of an extensive seven-year plot involving artificial intelligence (AI)-generated music, fictitious bands and false streams.
The Department of Justice arrested the accused from North Carolina’s Charlotte. He reportedly employed AI to produce hundreds of thousands of fake songs, tricked streaming services into granting phoney plays and earned over $10 million in royalties through dishonest tactics.
He is currently being prosecuted on three counts involving money laundering and wire fraud, each of which has a 20-year maximum penalty.
This is his mugshot:

Also, someone committing such a unique crime has the most generic NPC name ever 😅

Tyla Becomes First South African To Win A VMA!
great achievement but she opened up an interesting discussion…

The MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) were held last week in New York at the UBS Arena and as always, it was a star-studded affair.
I will say that I had no idea it was happening and that’s been the case for the last couple of awards shows. In my opinion, the VMAs and the host of other awards shows don’t hit the same anymore and I feel like a lot of people don’t care about them.
We did have some homegrown success though, with Tyla bagging the award for Best Afrobeats 🏆
During her acceptance speech, she brought up the fact that the win was bittersweet as the VMAs doesn’t understand the vast nature of African music and that it’s not all just Afrobeats. There are so many genres from so many regions in Africa.
I mean if we just look at South Africa, there are a multitude of genres that aren’t just Amapiano.
Perhaps this win will open the ears of international listeners to pay more attention to the wide soundscape that is Africa.
