Looks Like Meta Might Not Have A Handle On AI

Photographers are frustrated with Meta for incorrectly labeling their real photos as "Made by AI," TechCrunch and PetaPixel reports.

Notable examples include a basketball game photo by former White House photographer Pete Souza and an Instagram photo of the Kolkata Knight Riders' cricket victory. The erroneous labels appear only on mobile devices.

Souza suggests that using Adobe’s tools and saving as JPEGs might trigger Meta’s algorithm. PetaPixel found similar issues with minor edits using Adobe's Generative Fill. Photographer Noah Kalina criticized the broad labeling, and Meta's Kate McLaughlin acknowledged the problem, stating the company is refining its approach.

Meta began adding these labels to photos from various AI tools earlier this year but has not disclosed the specific triggers.

Apple Doesn’t Really Want You To Emulate

Apple might finally allow retro video game emulators on the App Store, but this month, the company rejected submissions of iDOS 3, a new version of the popular DOS emulator.

Deemed to violate guideline 4.7, which permits retro game emulators. Apple argued that iDOS 3 does not emulate a retro game console specifically.

The developer noted that their app doesn't use just-in-time compilation, a typically disallowed feature, and highlighted Apple's inconsistent application of guideline 4.7.

Looks like you’re going to have to play Dangerous Dave on a different emulator for now.
