An Apple employee, Amar Bhakta, has filed a lawsuit accusing the company of violating privacy rights by surveilling workers through company-managed devices, including personal iPhones.

The lawsuit alleges Apple encourages employees to use their own iPhones for work, which are then managed by Apple’s software, granting the company access to personal data such as emails, photos, and location information. Bhakta claims this practice forces employees to link personal iCloud accounts to Apple’s systems, allowing surveillance even outside work hours. The lawsuit also accuses Apple of breaking California law by permitting physical, video, and electronic monitoring of employees, including in at-home offices.

Bhakta’s lawsuit further alleges illegal wage clawback practices and suppression of employee speech, including forcing him to delete LinkedIn posts about his role. This case follows years of concerns about Apple’s strict data policies, which some employees liken to working under constant surveillance. Apple denies the claims, emphasizing its commitment to employee rights and confidentiality. However, the accusations highlight broader issues of workplace surveillance, a practice also scrutinized at other tech giants like Google and Amazon.
