That Didn’t Last Long

tiktok went dark in the us for just a few hours…

For the past few months, the talk around the US TikTok ban has ramped up with it reaching a fever pitch last week as Americans prepped to have the app go dark on Sunday, 19 January.

Many creators have said their goodbyes to their audiences and tried convincing them to move to other platforms like Instagram and YouTube. Audiences in other regions seemed to revel in the idea of having a platform devoid of Americans. I know South Africans were foaming at the mouth to make fun of Americans for their arrogance and their lack of worldly knowledge.

The celebrations were short-lived though, because a few hours later the US population had access back to the app:

The window for whether this ban will go through is 90 days and it’s attracted a lot of attention from potential buyers for the platforms to ensure it stays active in the US.

Elon Musk, Kevin O’Leary and even Mr Beast have offered to buy TikTok. Damn, imagine that.

The most interesting potential buyer is the AI platform, PerplexityAI. The merger faces significant hurdles, including regulatory scrutiny from the FTC and DOJ, ByteDance’s reluctance to part with its prized algorithm, potential backlash from TikTok’s loyal user base, and possible interference from the Chinese government.

Do you think that TikTok would be better without American users on the platform?

Justin ‘Jaquavious’ Bieber Is Back

he teased that he’s back in studio…

2025 might witness Justin Bieber's musical comeback, as hinted by his recent Instagram posts. Amidst his adventurous uploads, Bieber teased fans with pictures of him recording new music, suggesting a potential album release.

The visual preview hinting at potential music in the works comes just a few days after Bieber shared a 24-second clip of a track. In a short recording posted on Jan. 15, which sounded like a demo.

His most recent single was 2022 one-off “Honest” featuring Don Toliver.

In 2023, Bieber was a featured artist on Toliver’s track “Private Landing” with Future. He also sang with SZA on an acoustic version of “Snooze.”

Are we getting new music from the Biebs? In the meantime, we all remember this classic:
